tHE HISTORY
The history of enduro dates back to the early days of off-road motorcycle racing. In the 1920s and 1930s, motorcycle manufacturers began producing bikes designed for off-road racing, which led to the development of various types of off-road events.
Over time, off-road racing evolved into a variety of disciplines, including motocross, enduro, and trials. Roof of Africa was the very first Hard Enduro event back in 1967 and is still considered as the “mother of hard enduro”. In the 1990s Hard enduro emerged as a distinct discipline, with events such as the Red Bull Erzberg Rodeo and Red Bull Romaniacs.
As Hard Enduro grew in popularity, new events were established in various locations around the world. Despite the many international events, there hasn’t been a world championship for a long time. That changed in the 21st century. What began as the WESS in 2018, World Enduro Super Series in, became the most recognized off-road championship within two seasons. Based on that tremendous success, a championship was awarded with an official FIM World Championship title, and continued in 2021 as the FIM Hard Enduro World Championship.
- THE RACE - Here, the riders must negotiate a difficult, long and technical off-road course designed to test their skills to the limit. Most events also feature jumps, rocks, hills, mud, and other obstacles. The winner of the event is determined by the person with the shortest overall race time.
- THE TERRAIN - The terrain can provide the ultimate experience for any Enduro enthusiast. It can leave you feeling exhausted, exhilarated and provide a sense of accomplishment. Enduro trails often wind through areas of breathtaking natural beauty, such as untamed bush, rolling hills and towering mountains. Enduro riders must be prepared for the variety of terrain that is encountered. Some trails may involve small drops, jumps, rocks, roots or sand. Riders must familiarize themselves with proper braking techniques and wide turns when approaching obstacles. The technical difficulty of some Enduro trails can be incredibly challenging. The tracks provide classic obstacles such as rocks, loam and challenging single trails. Other factors such as elevation changes and ascents/descents can quickly increase the difficulty. The riders must make sure they are properly hydrated for long rides, and equipped with the necessary skills and gear to tackle the terrain. Without proper preparation, Enduro terrain can be dangerous and unforgiving, and one wrong move could signal disaster.
- THE BIKES - Enduro bikes are specially designed motorcycles that are built to tackle the most challenging terrain and obstacles of hard enduro racing. They commonly feature high-power engines, durable suspension systems, and lightweight frames. When selecting a bike for enduro racing, it's critical to consider aspects including your riding style, proficiency level, and the kind of terrain you'll be competing on. For the races and the championship, riders can select their desired brand and size of motorcycle.
- SKILLS NEEDED Having a combination of technical skills, physical fitness, and mental toughness are the key elements to successfully complete Enduro races. Additionally, planning, discipline, and resourcefulness, are essential for the successful completion of such difficult events.

Our races are designed to provide thrilling challenges to riders of all skill levels-- ranging from complete novices to experienced racers! We wholeheartedly welcome any and all enduro riders to participate in our events.

Both amateurs and professionals are free to enter, being sorted into divisions contingent on their ability and familiarity with the sport.
